THE FUNDRAISER:
I've been accepted to Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany — one of Europe's foremost fine art academies to study for an MFA.
TO GET THE VISA IN TIME, I'm raising $25K in 25 days to get there. Here's the breakdown:
$15K — the German visa's proof-of-funds requirement, covering twelve months of living expenses and health insurance
$10K — tuition, airfare, moving costs, and living expenses from July through September
$25,000 total
From July 1st to 9th, donations will be matched up to a total of $3500!

Background:
I've been living and making art without standard work authorization for over ten years, since moving from Trinidad to the US. It's a miracle I've survived — and it's because so many of you have helped me over the years.
Most of my family cannot obtain a US visa. So imagine ten years of people and places you love — and never getting to show them to your mother in person. What would you tell your baby niece when she strings together the words to ask, for the first time in her life, if she can visit where you are?
How does one make anything beautiful under these conditions? This has become the subject of my art — and your sweet help over the years has allowed me to make the work that's now securing my next chapter.
Getting into Städelschule means I get to create a different kind of life: one with the safety and economic and artistic opportunities I don't have access to in Trinidad, where I can devote myself fully to my art and build something self-sustaining — a little life my family can finally be a part of.
