Happy Survival, devised by Amir and Sheila under the direction of Charlotte Braithwaite, combines the traditional Igbo wake and the form of the truth and reconciliation committee to explore the resonance of the Biafran War among Lagosian men.
In our research, we found that the Biafran War was still an open wound for interviewees. Even though the war saw many atrocities, no attempt at healing has been made on the part of the nation. Those who experienced the war were never given the opportunity to reflect on a national level. Using the conventions of interactive performance we attempted to create space for open discourse on the legacy of the Biafran War in contemporary Nigeria. Completed as part of Son of Man.
