Role: Creative Direction, Photography, Performance
Taken at a residency in France, this performance work visualizes the haunting history of servitude for Caribbean subjects. The figure on the screen dons a colonial-era costume common for Black women servants of the time while the photos themselves remind the viewer of early colonial drawings of the Caribbean landscape. I co-opt these historical practices of portraying the Caribbean to tell a story instead of haunting as an example of what agency can look like in a system intent on taking it away.
